Anxiety is an unpleasant feeling where, one feels afraid and nervous. In normal situations, anxiety can be useful, helping us to avoid harmful situations, making us alert and motivating us to deal with problems. However, if our feelings of anxiety are too strong or go on for too long, they can stop us from doing the things we want to. This can lead to unhappiness in ones life.

There are many mental and physical symptoms that indicate anxiety and stress. Symptoms may vary from one person to another.

Mental (psychological) symptoms:

Ø      Anger

Ø      Fear of madness

Ø      Fear of impending death

Ø      Feelings of being outside yourself

Ø      Feeling cut off from reality

Ø      Worried all the time

Ø      Tiredness

Ø      Irritability

Ø      Poor memory

Ø      Sleeping badly

Ø      Inability to concentrate/cope

Physical symptoms:

Ø      Abdominal discomfort

Ø      Breathing heavily

Ø      Diarrhoea

Ø      Difficulty swallowing

Ø      Dizziness

Ø      Faintness

Ø      Frequent urination

Ø      Headaches

Ø      Indigestion

Ø      Muscle tension and pains

Ø      Racing heart (palpitations)

Ø      Sweating

Ø      Tightness or pain in chest

Ø      Tingling in the finger tips

Ø      Dry mouth

Ø      Sweaty palms

Ø      Inability to eat or excessive eating

Ø      Mood swings

Ø      Loss of sex drive
