Esther 4:13-17/5:1-8
Timely Interventions
Dear Friend
“When he saw Queen Esther standing in the court, he was pleased with her and held out to her the gold sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther approached and touched the tip of the sceptre. Then the king asked, ‘what is it, Queen Esther? What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be given you.” Read the rest of the entry
Read Esther 4:13-17 /5 1-8
The book of Esther depicts a series of imminent events where God intervened at just the right time. The resulting outcome was God’s people overcame being annihilated, the power and authority of God was clearly evident in working on behalf of His people. God’s sovereignty is highlighted, we have no doubt about who is in control. God’s will, must be done and our lives should be purpose driven and well-timed, we do not leave things to chance.
Esther shows the significance of prayer and fasting also the need for women to take an active role in ministry. For instance, injustice and racial prejudice must not be tolerated we should confront all kinds of prejudice and discrimination in our church and society.
The multi-national company (MNC) British giant retailer Marks and Spencer (M&S) recently blocked the words ‘Jesus’ and ‘Christ’ from inclusion in messages with order of flowers, as these words were deemed to be abusive and offensive. A vicar’s wife tried to order a bouquet for a neighbour and was told she could not write the message including the words Jesus or Christ in the message. She regarded this practise unacceptable and challenged M&S regarding this. Consequently, M&S have reviewed their procedures on usage of the words and customers can now include the words Jesus and Christ in floral bouquet orders.
Through the book of Esther we see her pivotal role in petitioning the king to prevent a nation from being exterminated. God showed up, intervened suddenly and prevented the wicked Haman’s plot being played out. Another timely intervention was God working behind the scenes enabling the king to discover Mordecai’s good deed at the opportune time.
“It was found recorded there that Mordecai had exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s officers who guarded the doorway, who had conspired to assassinate King Xerxes. What honour and recognition has Mordecai received for this? The king asked. Nothing has been done for him, his attendants answered” Esther 6:2-3
God will permit to enemy to be instrumental in your promotion. Haman prepared a lavish ceremony for mordecai with the mistaken belief that he instead of Esther’s cousin would be promoted. Thus by taking action Esther and Mordecai instead of being victims were transformed to victors. God’s power is released in His purpose for our lives. We want God to be at the centre of all we do. Many gods existed in the Middle East and the Persian empire with the names of gods even written on official documents to control the people. We worship one God, Jehovah, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Jesus is Lord!
Our God you reign forever
Our hope our strong deliver
You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint you wont grow weary
You’re a defender of the weak
You comfort those in need
You lift us up on wings as eagles.
